Another month, another post

August 7th, 2008

Well at this rate I should give up writing altogether…

Writing one blog entry a month can be tiresome hard work. Just ask me. I’ve been especially busy this last month (not really) but I did manage to land a new job and started on the 4th of August. The week before I wrote an article on how to get a job in Southeastern Connecticut, apparently I know what I am talking about. On a serious note it’s a good thing I got employment, I wasn’t getting much done besides conquering the Xbox 360.

I went and saw a few movies including Hellboy II and The Dark Knight. I must admit that the Dark Knight was fantastic and I am already drooling to watch the third movie and have even wrote and article on Batman 3 rumors. All in all it was a very satisfying summer movie adventure. There were many great flicks and many flicks that left more to be desired. Next year I already can’t wait to watch The Watchmen and the new Wolverine movie.

About a month ago I was part of the video production crew for the christening of the USS New Hampshire. This was my second time doing this as the USS Hawaii was the first boat I did. The production went smooth and I actually ran the video production portion of the reception over at the Mystic Marriott with a two man crew. So in a round about way I still got my foot in the video production door.

On the work front I just built a Linux box and will be messing around with this OS. Should be fun as it is similar to the OS X Apple uses. I plan on writing more and more (hopefully I go from the planning to the executing stage, a little PMP lingo). I’ve been tempted to write a screenplay for a while now or at the very least finish the ten I got started on then decided I needed to kill some people on Halo 3.

Anyways. Thanks for reading and guess what? I will be posting more frequently I think…

A month later…

July 9th, 2008

Wow, it has been over a month since my last post and a lot has happened. I mean A LOT. Well I think I’ll start off by mentioning that I have been writing articles on Associated Content and Helium like crazy. I’ve begun experimenting with MyLot, Squidoo, and Yahoo Answers. My goal is to have all these sites interlink with each other. I’ll let you know how that is coming along with future posts.

First things first. I lost my job. I was laid off for the very first time in my life. I was a project manager for Court Square Data Group. I was on a project as the Process Lead interacting between Hewlett Packard and Pfizer. I actually loved my job, I thought it was great. Then about 30 people got let go at our company (out of about 120) and the senior people were put in the junior people’s positions. Oh well, I guess that’s how things work sometimes. It was a surprise to me. I went into work on Friday and they asked to see me a little early. That was it, a signed letter saying sorry and blamo June 13, 2008 is your last day. Friday the 13th will have new meaning to me.

On to happier things. I’ve been watching a ton of movies and writing reviews for some of them. I saw Wanted twice, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Hancock, and others. I’ve been having a blast. I’m heading to Buffalo, New York this weekend which is the home of Niagara Falls. I always have a good time visiting that place.

Well I’m going to be better about spucing up my website with maybe some pictures and stuff. But for sure I will be posting a lot more, so come often and click the links to find out more information on all my great writing. Thanks!

End of the Stanley Cup Finals

June 8th, 2008

This is another Pittsbugh Penguins post mixed with a few other less interesting topics. Well, I watched the game Wednesday night and the Penguins lost. This means the season is over. The game was fantastic with great end to end action. It took 16 years for the Penguins to get this far but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will be back to the Stanley Cup finals next year. But with the end of hockey comes my next challenge, the PMP exam.

PMP stands for Project Management Professional and this is a type of certification you can obtain in a career for project management. The application itself is intimidating and requires several hours to complete. I’ve had my application complete for the last 8 months, you get a one year window to take the test once your application is approved. I’ve decided to try and take the test in August with a self-study approach. That could prove quite tricky as this test is a four hour marathon with 200 questions. But that is my goal and that is what I must strive to meet.

I love the summer time. I’m not a huge fan of the sun and all its glorious cancer causing rays. The summer blockbusters, however, are another deal entirely. I love the summer movies for nothing more than pure entertainment. The Oscar contenders come out in fall and the fun movies hit the theaters in May. This year is proving to be quite the blockbuster year with several comic book adaptions hitting the screen. Iron Man was an awesome movie that all movie goers went and saw. Speed Racer also debuted, a lot of people hated this but I thought it was amazing and certainly innovative. I saw Don’t Mess With the Zohan yesterday and as far as comedies go it was eh-blah.

Aside from movies I’ve been busy writing more articles on Helium and Associated Content. I’m currently looking for ways to create pages for my scripts and poetry. As you can tell from my spiffy header, I am a Wordpress rookie. But I’ve gotten this far with a lot of help from my friend at work who has his own Wordpress site. So far - so good.

Pittsburgh Penguins

June 1st, 2008

I’ve been watching the magnificent Pittsburgh Penguins since 1988 when they had little more than Mario Lemiuex and a hope to become Stanley Cup Champions. It’s been 20 years since then and two cups later. Mario did in fact deliver two cups to the city of Pittsburgh and tons of memories to go along with that exciting era. Today the Penguins are a different team, they are chalk full of superstars and are very reminiscent of the Penguins of the late eighties. They are still raw but terribly fun to watch.

Last night was Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. The match up between the Detroit Redwings and the Penguins has been fun, at times, to watch but disappointing as well. The inexperienced Penguins are showing their youth with several turnovers and missed opportunities. I wrote an article at Associated Content about who I thought would win the Stanley Cup. To date that article has about 400 page views, which is not bad. The article boldly states the Penguins will triumph in the playoffs and march to the Stanley Cup. On their way there they would beat powerhouse after powerhouse ending with their dominance of the Dallas Stars.

Well, that is not happening. In fact the Penguins are down 3-1 and the Red Wings are looking stronger than ever. The next game is Monday night as Pittsburgh packs their bags and heads to Hockey town. Here is were we will see what the Penguins are really made up of. I’ll be watching the game on pins and needles wearing my Penguins T-shirt. This year’s hockey season has possible one more game left but I’m hoping for three games.
